MANILA, Philippines — Health, wellness and beauty store Watsons recently kicked off its Bro Hub event, redefining men’s grooming and self-care.
The event brought together experts and influencers, including dermatologist Dr. Neil Isaguirre, broadcaster James Deakin, athlete Pao Javelona, content creator Gabby Salvador, and internet personality Paco Berba for a discussion on modern masculinity, confidence, and the evolving role of personal care in men’s lives.
For Millennial athlete Pao, men’s care routines go beyond the superficial.
“Skincare for me is very therapeutic. In a world where you can’t control things, you can control your skincare,” he shared, adding that he always keeps a handy shaver with him to avoid looking “crusty.”
From a Gen Z perspective, Paco encouraged men who may feel intimidated about grooming to ease into it.
“I would recommend starting with the basics. Start with what you’re comfortable with. Start with a new haircut, new deodorant, or trying out a new wax for your hair, and then you can progress with your face,” Paco said.

Building on this is James’ advice for dads and men alike: “Hair is a great place to start after the basics — it’s your crowning glory.”
Echoing this idea of starting small, Gabby shared how self-care doesn’t need to be complicated, emphasizing that men’s care can also be as simple as sticking to the essentials.
“Hydrate, eat good food, have a good sleep, and exercise. One thing that I really learned to develop to take care of myself is to have the idea of confidence,” Gabby added.
Highlighting the need for men to level up their wellness game, no matter the age, is something that the Bro Hub panelists believe in.
Pao summed this up perfectly when he said, “You should invest in yourself because at the end of the day it’s you who will benefit from yourself, so you need to present for yourself.”
